USGBC LEED New Construction and Major Renovation

The following are LEED credits available through the application of Advanced Roofing and Insulationclosed cell sprayed polyurethane foam (ccSPF) roofs and wall foam. These are credits from the U.S. Green Building Council’s New Construction and Major Renovation Version 2.2 Reference Guide.

Sustainable Sites Credit 7.2 Heat Island Effect (1 point)

Roof

An Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF roof with a white Energy Star rated acrylic coating exceeds the Option 1 requirement of having a Solar Reflectance Index value greater than 78 on a low-sloped (less than 2:12) roof.

Energy and Atmosphere Prerequisite 2 Minimum Energy Performance
Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF will help comply with the mandatory provisions, prescriptive requirements and performance requirements of ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2004.

Energy and Atmosphere Credit 1 Optimize Energy Performance (1-10 points)
Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF will help optimize energy performance through a superior insulation value of R-6.5 per inch as well as exceeding ASTM E 283-99 @ 75 Pa air leakage rates. This superior R-value and reduced air leakage may allow the reduction in size of the HVAC mechanical system for further energy efficiency.

Maintain 75% of the Existing Walls, Floors, and Roof
Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF, when applied to existing building systems, will, through its superior thermal and air barrier properties, improve the energy efficiency of existing structures. This can contribute to significant cost savings by maintaining a minimum of 75% of the existing walls, floors, and roof.

Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF, when applied to existing building systems, will, through its superior thermal and air barrier properties, improve the energy efficiency of existing structures. Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF applications result in minimal waste generation. Foam components shipped in drums or totes utilized during the application are shipped back to the manufacturer for re-use.

Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF can be utilized for interior wall applications to provide soundproofing and superior insulation for zoning applications. Thoughtful designs which incorporate interior thermal insulation with superior airtightness and considering building zoning requirements will provide increased occupant comfort and reduced energy usage.

Innovation and Design Credit 1.2 Integrated Project Team (1 Point)

Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF will contribute to providing an energy efficient and healthy home. Advanced Roofing and Insulation will be a valuable member of the project team. We can provide guidance for insulation levels to meet code compliance, provide recommendations for use of open cell versus closed cell foam products and be a resource for ventilation discussions.

Innovation and Design Credit 1.3 Design Charrette (1 Point)

Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF will impact the design of a home?s HVAC system. With the superior insulation R-values, conditioned attic system and reduced air infiltration provided by Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF, it may be possible to reduce the HCAC sizing. This reduced size in the HVAC unit may offset the initial cost of the superior Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF.

Innovation and Design Credit 2.1 Durability Planning (Prerequisite)

Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF will contribute to durability measures for:

  1. Air Infiltration- Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF exceeds ASTM E283 @ 75Pa air leakage rates resulting in significantly reduced air leakage.
  2. Interstitial Condensation- Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF has a water vapor transmission of <1 @ 2 inches ASTM E096, thus preventing condensation between the insulation and sheathing of the roof and walls.
  3. Heat Loss- Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF has the highest R-value, 6.5 per inch, of any insulation material. Innovation and Design Credit 2.4 Third Party Durability Management Verification (3 points) Third party inspections of Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF installation can support the durability management verification points.

Energy and Atmosphere 1 Optimize Energy Performance (1-34 potential points)
These points may be received using either the Performance Path for Energy Star homes or the Prescriptive Path.

Performance Path

Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF may improve the energy efficiency and the HERS score as follows:

  1. With an R-6.5 value per inch, Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF can achieve higher insulation values (Up to R-23) in typical 2×4 wall framing cavities.
  2. Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF eliminate voids and compressions in wall cavities, allowing it to receive the HERS Grade 1 installation quality rating.
  3. The Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF conditioned attic application (bringing the attic into the building envelope) will reduce the load on the HVAC unit when the HVAC unit is placed in the attic.
  4. Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF provide a complete air barrier, reducing air infiltration into the home. This allows for a possible reduction in HVAC sizing.

Prescriptive Path

Energy and Atmosphere 2.2 Enhanced Insulation (2 points)
Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF with an R-value of 6.5 per inch can be used to exceed the IECC minimum R-value requirements by 5%. Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF automatically qualify as a HERS Grade 1 installation.

Energy and Atmosphere 3.3 Minimal Envelope Leakage (3 points)
Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF with an ASTM E283 @ 75Pa air leakage rate can satisfy the minimal envelope air leakage requirements.

Energy and Atmosphere 5.3 Minimal Distribution Losses (3 points)
Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF, when used in the conditioned attic application along with placing the HVAC equipment inside the attic, will qualify for these points.

Materials and Resources 2.2 Environmentally Preferable Products (1 point)
Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF do not emit volatile organic compounds (VOC?s) and utilize zero ozone depleting blowing agent technology. Products manufactured on site meet the local production requirements.

Materials and Resources 3.2 Construction Waste Reduction (3 points)
Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF components are shipped in drums or totes to the job site which are then shipped back to the factory for re-use resulting in minimal waste generation for the project.

Indoor Environmental Quality 10.2 Minimize Pollutants from Garage (2 points)
Advanced Roofing and Insulation ccSPF provides an airtight seal between the garage and living area and will contribute to obtaining these points.
